What very specific literary connection do these three works of art share?

A

the anatomy lesson of dr tulp

B

the raft of medusa

C

the thinker

I think this one is very google-able, but the answer should leave all of you quite amused. For your convenience, I have not changed the names of the pictures. Let them serve as hints. Otherwise this question would have been too arbit.

Wish you luck, and have a nice life, folks!

Paddy’s and Akhil’s (asherxai’s) answers are correct!

And sorry for giving out the answers to these so late. Compare the following panels in pairs, and you will have all the answers!

Two weeks now, and here’s a very easy and simple one for the day!

Identify the company, brand or organisation of which this is one of the earliest logos.

take

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

Looks like this was one of the easier ones. Cracked by asherxai, Paddy Shivam and Neo Quiz Spot. BTW, please identify yourself or yourselves, NQS.

This was indeed one of the earlier logos of Apple Computers Company.

Here’s the actual logo.

Now, I know folks, that you have to let the entire video stream from YouTube before you can see them, but bear with me please.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

Shivam got the answer I was looking for, but once again, there seems to be another answer to this question. The answer I was looking for is indeed Suraj Jagan, the bald, tattooed MTV executive from Rock on, who sang in a band called ChakraVIEW, an allusion to the legendary Chakravyuha, which Abhimanyu could not get out of in the Mahabharata. In fact, the first picture is said to be a pictorial representation of that very Chakravyuha.

As for the Hutch Ad and “Gimme some sunshine” from 3 idiots, both are sung by Suraj Jagan. He also sang that ‘poisonous’ rock song ‘Zehreelay Zehreelay’ in Rock On.

However, if what asherxai alias Akhil says is true, then once again my question has two connects! Look at his comments for more on this.

Also, identify all the actors, if possible, but that is just a mundane exercise.

Akhil has, as usual, cracked this one, and so has Shivam.

The answer is indeed the lady with beautiful eyes and a sexy pout: Olga Kurylenko. She was the Bond girl in Quantum of Solace (and not in Casino Royale, it was Eva Greene there), and also Timothy Olyphant’s love interest in Hitman. She was Mona Sax’s sister in Max Payne.

Simple one for the day.

In the medieval period, in jousting tournaments, the competitors had to identify themselves by raising the visor of their helmets so that the judges could see their face. What has originated from this practice?

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

*************

Cracked by Paddy and Akhil aka asherxai. However, it appears from Paddy’s reply that Vipin may have cracked this one too!

The answer, obviously, is the salute! Interesting piece of trivia here: the army salute differs from the navy salute. While the army personnel salute with their palms showing, the navy never show their palms. This is apparently because people in the navy get their hands too dirty too often, and it is considered disrespectful to show a dirty palm to a high-ranking official.

Only Paddy got this one correct!

The connection is indeed Shantanu Moitra, the music composer.

In his recently released Bengali book, Moitra describes how, at a foreign airport, he got the chance to meet his soccer hero Diego Maradona, and even got a shop attendant to click a photograph of them together on his own mobile phone. But the papparazzi invaded, and they had to run. In all the hurry, Moitra still rues leaving his cell phone behind with the shop attendant!

In the same book, Moitra mentions how, as a school student, he used to be part of a group that used to send posters full of signatures to South Africa for the release of Nelson Mandela. Then, one day after his release, Mendela did come to visit Moitra’s school, and thanked the people. Accompanying them was Miriam Makeba aka Mama Africa, whose song ‘Malaika’ was one of Moitra’s favourites. He did not know she was there, and when asked by his teachers to welcome Mandela with a song, chose ‘Malaika’! Mama Africa was so impressed that she asked Moitra to do an encore, and sang along with him!

Prasoon Joshi and Jaideep Sahni debuted as lyricists in the same album that Moitra debuted as the music composer. The album was Ab Ke Sawan, and the singer was Shubha Mudgal.

When Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s story Parineeta was given a new twist earlier in this century, Moitra composed the music for it.

Moitra shares a penchant for astrology with Gulzar. In fact, he even talks in his book about how sad Gulzar was when Pluto was stripped off its ‘planet’ status!

With reference to Indian comics, what follows the following ten comic books? And what is its significance?
1. Jack & The Bean Stalk
2. Little Red Riding Hood
3. Cinderella
4. The Magic Fountain
5. Aladdin & His Lamp
6. Pinocchio
7. The Three Little Pigs
8. Oz Ka Zadugar
9. The Sleeping Beauty
10. Himbala Aur Sat Baune

Had to start dry questions sometime or the other, so after a week of pics, back to more traditional quizzing.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

******************

Cracked after googling.

Yes, these are the first 10 issues of Amar Chitra Katha. All of these were reprints of Disney Comics. The 11th was Krishna, which was the first authentically Indian comic in ACK. Hence ACK 11 is often referred to as the first fully Indian comic!

ack

As for Paddy’s request to post un-google-able questions, here’s my opinion. It really doesn’t matter if a person is googling the answer or not. Just the fact that he googled for it shows that he is interested, and due to the nature of these questions, he is now HOOKED! That was what we had always asked for, isn’t it?

After yesterday’s simple connect, here’s another connect, almost as simple.

Now, after yesterday’s experience, I know that many youngsters are not able to recognise famous personas and personalities from yesteryears. I saw someone identify Guru Dutt as Kishore Kumar!

So, from today, just to make things slightly easier, I will provide hints about pictures or personalities who I may think are too tough or arbit to be identified. The hint for today is that the two people in the third picture are Mehmood and Shashikala.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

***************

Only Paddy aka Padmanabhan Pillai had the answer I was looking for. And it was THAT simple! BLUE! Refer to his reply for further details.

However, I did not expect an altogether different connect, which Anup ,managed to come up with. The third picture is indeed from Neel Kamal, so his connect of LOTUS is also valid.

Hey, i thought this was an easy one, and no one cracked it!? Or did no one even visit and see this question?

The connection is Satyajit Ray.

The two fonts mentioned here are Ray Roman and Ray Bizarre, both created by Ray. The drawing of the alien is also by Ray. It was supposed to be how the aliens would look if the film on extra terrestrials, that Ray was planning with Stanley Kubrick, had materialised.

However, for some strange reason, Ray’s script, which he had sent to Kubrick for perusal, went missing. Several years later, when Steven Spielberg made ‘ET: the extra terrestrial’, many people, who knew of Ray’s script, said that there were lots of similarities between the script and the film!

Questioned about this in an interview, Spielberg had reportedly said that the “script was already doing rounds of Hollywood when I was in high school.” What do we make of that?

Looks like some people are visiting the blog almost as frequently as I am posting questions!

Here’s a slightly difficult question, but it’s easy enough if you think logically and trust your instincts.

Put fundaez:

britain

…or, here’s a more verbose question.

What is this, and why is it like this?

Signing off for the day. Have a nice life, folks!

CRACKED! And looks like Shubhayu picked up on my mistake! I had not renamed the picture file!

This is the logo of the Communist Party of Great Britain, which was dissolved in 1991. In its place now exists the Communist Party of Britain.

The trivia behind the logo is that UK was dead against Russia, the country of origin of Communism. Therefore, when the time came to choose a logo, they modified the original sickle and hammer logo of communist parties, and although the hammer remained, the sickle became a dove!

Shubhayu: 1.5

Anup: 1

Julius: yet to open his/her account. Pls identify yourself, Julius.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAND CRACKED!!

Shubhayu and Anup got this one.

Eric Bana and Daniel Craig were part of a Steven Spielberg film called ‘Munich’, which was about a group of Israelis trying to track down and kill some of those responsible for the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre.

After the massacre, the Games authorities declared a pause of four days before the games would resume. Leander’s father Vece and mother Jennifer were both part of the Indian contingent to the Olympics that year, and with four days to kill, they conceived Leander! Leander has in fact corroborated this in one of his television interviews.

PS: All photos published so far in this blog have been taken by yours truly.

Starting today, I will try to upload a question every three to four days. Please send in your answers as comments, and I will try to maintain a leaderboard too!

Here’s today’s question.

100_0805

The note that you see here is one of the rare few which exist in India. Only a handful of them were ever issued, and that too in the early 1900’s. The existing pieces today cost anywhere between Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, depending on their condition and where they were minted.

Why were notes with such apparently arbit denomination issued?

CRACKED!!

This one’s been partially cracked by Akhil, and partially cracked by Shubhayu, so half points for both of them! Combine their comment for answers!

The reason behind the nomenclature

Many may wonder why I chose to name my blog the way I did, and not as ‘Actions and Implementations’, which sounds more proactive and ‘happening’. After all, aren’t aims, aspirations and intentions all in one’s mind, and make no impact unless translated into action?

Well, for one, this may not be my first blog, but I am still pretty new to it. Therefore, I chose the title more on a whim. And then, when I got thinking, I realised that actions may tell the WORLD who I am, but my aims and intentions tell ME who I really am. That way, I am foremost trying to be true to myself before I let that truth out on the world.

100_2378

I hope this photograph, taken by yours truly and utterly out of context here, brings a smile to your face as the cogs in your brain creak into action.

Have a nice life, folks!
