Should not be too difficult.

who

Simply identify the white Caucasian male who is excavating the mummified remains of a famous pharaoh of Egypt.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

***

Three answers, and Suneel, ali and an anonymous answerer are all correct. This is indeed Howard Carter, working on the mummy of Tutenkhamen, known as Tutenkhatun before he merged his name with that of the Sun God Amun Ra.

An easy one after a couple of apparent zingers.

who

Simply identify the gentleman who is being talked about here. Hint: Among his other ‘achievements’ is the fact that he has had a Pokemon named after him.

A not-so-difficult one.

what

What three-word phrase best describes these eight ‘targets’? It’s not all that difficult, and the target is time-bound.

Happy quizzing, and have nice life, folks!

***

Looks like this was a tough one! The only reply, given by ali, happens to be correct. These are collectively known as the Millennium Development Goals, as outlined by the United Nations.

Shouldn’t be too difficult.

what

Who exactly are being appealed here to keep hold their tongues and keep the secret a secret? A two-word phrase is the key, and the muscular gentleman is a huge giveaway.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

***

Four answers, and all correct. This was indeed at Oak Ridge in Nashville, Tennessee, in the US, reminding US government employees working on the Manhattan Project not to be the cause of a leak of information on the project.

A not-so-easy one…

who

This gentleman, the youngest Michelin-star winner of his time, is often acknowledged to be the godfather of modern cooking. Among his many protégés is Gordon Ramsay, with whom he stopped talking after Ramsay brought a TV crew to this gentleman’s third wedding without informing either the groom or the bride.

Like Ramsay, this gentleman too is known for his mercurial temper. He once cut out a part of the clothing of one of this junior chefs who was complaining of heat in the kitchen. He also famously returned all his Michelin stars and retired in 1999 as a chef, a mere 12 years after having opened his first restaurant in London.

Identify this gentleman.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

***

Apparently, this was a difficult one. Three replies, and only two correct… This is the Michelin Star-returning chef Marco Pierre White.

***

My bad. Just goes to show how the quizmaster is never infallible. As was answered by Ali, and later pointed out by JARGON, the photo belongs to Claude Bosi, while the details are those of Marco Pierre White.

Let the connects begin with an easy one!

1. This is a Native American of Apache origin. His name means ‘one who yawns’. It was also often used as a battle cry in the earlier half of the 20th century.

1

2. Just a gentleman who was at the right place at the right time.

2

3. This is actually a British armyman whose direct connection is to what has been blanked out in the previous photograph.

NPG 4532; Sir James Abbott

4. Need I say more?

4

As simple as that. Connect.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

***

Six answers, and all correct! The connect is Operation Neptune Spear aka Operation Geronimo aka the operation by US Navy Seal Team 6 to seek out and kill Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The first photo is that of Geronimo. The second is Sohaib Athar, who unwittingly live-tweeted the entire Navy Seal operation in Abbottabad. The third is the General Abbott after whom Abbottabad is named. and the fourth is a book by one of the participants of the operation about his experience that night.

I had thought of including Zero Dark Thirty or Katherine Bigelow as a clue too, but that would have made it even more obvious.

Let’s bring back the easier questions again.

who

Simple. This is a business card. Identify the CEO and the firm. already lots of hints in there for you.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

***

Eight replies, and all correct. And I am assuming here that Rajiv meant to say Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook Inc.

Let the somewhat-difficult-ones continue.

The Bonnie Earl O' Moray is a popular Scottish ballad, thought to have been written in the 17th century. It touches on a true story about the rivalry of James Stewart, Earl of Moray (pronounced Murray), and the Earl of Huntly, in 1592. The four most ‘famous’ lines from it are as follows:

“Ye Highlands and ye Lawlands,
Oh where have you been?
They have slain the Earl O' Moray
And layd him on the green.”

This is the first verse of the ballad. The reason it is ‘famous’ is that it gives rise to a figure of speech – a malapropism, actually – which is prevalent not only in English but several other languages.

My question is, what is this malapropism? And why is it named so?

Hint (somewhat): Brapnhu Prabhu Deva <—> Benny Lava

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

***

Only one answer, and the blogging entity who calls himself/herself virtuoso is correct! The figure of speech is Mondegreen, used to denote misheard lyrics. It is derived from the last line of the verse quoted, which was often misheard as ‘And Lady Mondegreen’. As for the hint, Prabhu Deva was referred to as ‘Benny Lava’ in in all of the ‘Buffalaxed’ videos, which themselves were Mondegreens all along.

Time to crack open some of the tougher questions, I think.

who

Given above is the artist’s impression of a certain fictional character from a Russian version of a literary masterpiece. This character is much in discussion these days. But this is not the first time he/she has been part of such fame/notoriety. It happened a little more than a decade ago too! Identify the character and the book/novel/story/play he or she belongs to.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

***

Apparently, no takers! This is an artist’s impression of Gollum from JRR Tolkein’s The Hobbit.
