X has decidedly Indian origins, but became more famous by the name given to Leonardo of Pisa, who studied it as a model to determine what the number of rabbits would be after a certain period of time if initially there were only two rabbits, that rabbits gave birth every month, have a gestation period of one month, never died, and reached maturity to reproduce within one month of birth.
Interestingly, although the Indian branch of mathematics dealing with X was developed around 200BC, and Leonardo explored this problem in 1202AD, Leonardo’s name is the more famous one here.
