Two answers again, and they both contain the phrase I was looking for! This is indeed a pictorial representation of the highly controversial Little Albert Experiment! Present day laws would probably have prohibited such experimentation!
Classical Conditioning
ReplyDelete- the picture depicting the "Little Albert experiment" by John B. Watson
This is the extrapolation of the famous experiment by Ivan Pavlov on dogs to human beings. This is known as Watson's experiment on Little Albert. This experiment depicted conditioned reflex in the form of phobias to a particular stimulus (in this case the banging of the iron rod with hammer). This is known as Classical Conditioning. This also depicted "extinction" of the phobia over time on withdrawal of the said stimulus. This experiment demonstrated the interplay of various factors in Classical Conditioning : Unconditional Stimulus (Loud Noise), Unconditional Response (Fear & Crying), Conditional Stimulus (The Rat)and Conditional Response (Fear and Crying)
