I have 15 replies, but as a quizmaster, ought to consider only 13. Simply Pepsi would be too apocryphal. Pepsi and the World Cup would be OK. But Full points would definitely have to be given to Pepsi’s ‘Change the Game’ ad campaign. These people and Tillakratne Dilshan feature prominently in them!

Just pulled another all-nighter, and will conduct another quiz in a few hours’ time.

Meanwhile, here are a few questions on comics for y’all!

  1. Of what breed is Richie Rich’s dog Dollar?
  2. Which villain actually caused the accident that led to Chemical X being spilt into the concoction, which caused the creation of the Powerpuff Girls?
  3. In which season do all Phineas and Ferb episodes occur?

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks! Meanwhile, wish me luck!

***************

Only Sachin got all three correct. Incidentally, I thought that the second question was the most difficult, but it was the most answered too!

  1. Dollarmation.
  2. Mojo Jojo. He was initially one of Professor Utonium’s assistants, and pushed him, which caused the stirrer to hit a suspended container of Chemical X, which fell into the concoction of sugar, spice and everything nice. It led to the creation of the Powerpuff Girls.
  3. Summer. The title song itself goes “There’s a 104 days of summer vacation, then school comes along to end it…”.

Sixteen answers, and yes, its definitely due to the elections. However, none of you guys seem to have noticed that while indelible ink is put on the index finger, it has been put here on the middle finger. That’s because the general and assembly elections took place the same year there. Thus, it was instructed that ink be put on the index finger for the first election, and the middle finger for the next. This was to avoid confusion.

The answer I was looking for is Kandukondain Kandukondain, the film. It was based on Sense and Sensibility, Shankar Mahadevan won his first National Award for it, and it featured a song or a small piece, sung by Hariharan, which was originally written by Subramanya Bharathi, aka Bharathiyar.

“Lead by the Minister of Defence Nigel Yupland, a bomb squad searches a chemical weapons factory. All appears to be normal. However, in a lab where computer-driven devices perform tasks too risky for humans, one of the machines goes haywire and soon bursts into flames. Outside the bomb squad duck for cover as the factory explodes.” (sic)

According to the script, this was the opening sequence of a thriller in one of the most enduring franchises in the history of motion pictures. Which film is being talked about?

*************

Nine answers, but only pritfloyd is wholly correct. Another anonymous answerer does answer Bond 17, which is the correct answer, but he is only partly correct. To several others, James Bond  has NEVER been the name of a film in this franchise!

True, that the 17th Bond film was Goldeneye, but there was talk before that of a third Bond film starring Timothy Dalton. It never materialised. It’s simply known as Bond 17 now. Some websites, however, attribute the name The property of a lady to it.

X and Y are two films starring the same person. X was released in 1971. However, X’s intended name, which was very near to a Gene Hackman film that was released shortly before, was intended for it because of the theme of drugs in X. However, the initial names of X and Y got somehow interchanged. It was only in 2005 that the names were changed back again. As a result, Y came to be known what X was originally released as, but to reduce confusion, an alphabet was dropped from X’s original name, and the result became Y’s new name. X, on the other hand, came to be known by a different name. Give me the present names of both these films.

Happy quizzing, and have a nice life, folks!

*****************

Looks like this one was a real toughie! No answers yet! Lets clear the air, then.

X was supposed to have been called The Chinese Connection, after Hackman’s The French Connection. but came to be known as Fists of Fury. It’s now known as The Big Boss.

Y was supposed to have been Fist of Fury (not Fists…), but was erroneously called The Chinese Connection. It’s now reverted back to Fist of Fury.
